I have a feeling the rescue effort would go more smoothly if a number of the victims would, say, cease taking pot shots at the rescuers with their (NRA-lobbied-for) guns. I think mobbing every helicopter and bus that comes in doesn't help either...

In more local news, they've shut down the Maplewood Drive entrance to 104 Eastbound again. This time it's more long-term as they repave the damn thing and work on the footbridge for above it. This loveliness means that every day, for at least half the waking day, there is a traffic jam down our streets consisting of the idiots who can't get it through their skulls that it isn't going to be open for a while or simply don't know how to reroute themselves. Aren't there enough detours around here for the locals without wishing to be able to detour around their own streets as well?

And, joy of joys, we let it slip our minds and now our inspection sticker is expired. I get to spend tomorrow waiting for news from

mechanchaos and feeling guilty that it'll be my birthday in the middle of financial crisis. We already put almost $700 into this thing at the beginning of the summer. I fear what will be required now. We haven't been able to pay off the card from the last mechanical crisis (let alone the vet, my dad's loan, etc. etc.) I admit that some of that has been poor planning on my part and insisting on still taking vacations regardless of the financial implications. On the other hand, vacations are good sanity breaks and we saved money by camping and taking much of our own food. The gas prices are making all this worse. I'm seriously considering insisting that we use public transportation for most of our needs. At this point, it's cheaper.

Wouldn't it be nice if I could just freeze the rest of the world and have a month or twelve to try to set things in order... ***shrugs***
