Well, the kittens were well loved by all the nice folks working at ARDDA. Dr. Kutrybala checked everyone out, giving them all a clean bill of health. Stool samples for worms were negative, as was Minerva's bloodtest for Feline Leukemia. The kittens got their first round of distemper shots and a preventative dewormer medication. Minerva got her first rabies and distemper shots.

For those of you taking kittens, I have certificates they printed up stating that they received the IFCVRC shots, with it written in that Mom was FELV/FIV negative, and that they were wormed with Strongid for your vets.

The thing that floored me in the car on the way home was the typo on the certificates. I kept thinking of Lilo&Stitch... In two places they typed aminal rather than animal. I couldn't help but giggle.

*grins* Apparently at least half the brain was being shared when we took those quizzes. I would actually imagine John would get the same ... but I dunno about Oli. Maybe he'd get the same as Kristen did. :)

Good news on the kittens.
I lost one of my cats to FIV a long time ago, it still hurts to think about it :(

Yeah, I figured you'd get this one, rather than the vinyl one. *g* This was actually the answer of the person I got it from, and as soon as I saw it, I thought, "Oh, [livejournal.com profile] mechanchaos!"

That must have been difficult. I've lost several pets over the years for a variety of reasons, and it is always a loss.

When I was living with my parents we lost a one to a road accident and a few got put down due to old age/and old age cancers
But the one that died of FIV was about 10 years ago, and was one I had brought up from a kitten, she was about 3 years old when she caught it and just stopped eating, the vets were crap and only told us about FIV on the last visit when she was really thin and ill, they just sort of said 'she's going to die, you maight as well have her put down'

Once when we moved, both [livejournal.com profile] mechanchaos and I had to give up both of our cats at the time. Ayame, a skittish, petite, black kitten at the time, has since completely assimilated into [livejournal.com profile] mechanchaos's parents house. She is thoroughly their cat now. My cat, a beautiful tabby named Anaximander, went to my parents' place. He escaped one Halloween and was never seen from again. I have too thorough an imagination, and end up picturing countless things that could have happened to him.

Our mama kitty, Minerva, showed up out of the blue late last November. She waltzed right in as if she owned the place. Within a month it became obvious that she came fully loaded. January 25, we were blessed to be there and assist when she gave birth to six kittens. Three of them will be staying with us and three of them will be going to friends of ours.

Raising a cat from a kitten is a beautiful thing.

I consider myself dually blessed, first to be chosen by Minerva, and again to have the priviledge of witnessing the birth of and raising her kittens.

We also have four mice and two rats. Quite a managerie for now!

A little while after my wife showed me the door, she decided that the remaing 2 cats (2 ginger males) we had left needed to go too.
She was gearing up to give them away to friends or advertise in the paper!
I persuaded my sister (also a cat lover, already whith 5 cats) to take one and my mum & dad (who had 2 cats) to take the other.
Both cats are now fat and very happy, the one with my sister has 5 girls to keep him company (they are all spayed and he is nuetered) and gets on with all but one of them, the one with my parents has a dominant female an a young male to contend with, but seems to have found his place.
I was unable to have them (I would have loved to) as I a) Have a no pets rule on the flat I live in and b)Live on a main road, so cat life would be measured in minutes not years.

***prefers cats to people***
