Last night [livejournal.com profile] mechanchaos, Aidan, and I went out to Sticky Lips Pit Barbecue. Their combos are bloody enormous. I am no light eater, and my meal lasted for two very hearty dinners with samples of their pulled pork, beef brisket, barbecue ribs, honey-glazed cornbread, and my choice of two side dishes (ratatouille, black beans and rice). That is some right-tasty food. Also, they have a vegetarian portion of their menu that is as tempting as their meat offerings for those who aren't as likely to enjoy dead-animal food.

Last night, at my request, [livejournal.com profile] mechanchaos mixed up a recipe of my pink lemonade, substituting Wegmans pomegranate juice for the cranberry-raspberry I usually use. It's milder, not too sweet, and still very yummy. It even has the pink-moonstone-like swirlies that my pink lemonade usually has. Thank you [livejournal.com profile] mechanchaos!

Today I tried working with fresh ginger over my vanilla ice cream. Yummy, yes, but definitely trickier than working with the tea. Since fresh ginger is juicy when it is grated, it tended to freeze on the surface of the ice cream in little chunks. I ended up stirring it in to break them up and evenly distribute the ginger. I can picture potentially better results if I froze the fresh ginger first and found a finer grater to use. That, or I could just use powdered ginger next time.

Tomorrow's experiment will include peeking into my herb and spice drawers before dishing up the ice cream. Yay for a big bucket of ice cream and small bowls to put it in!

I made something of a "poor-man's" green tea ice cream tonight. With a mortar and pestal, I finely ground about 2 Tablespoons worth of sencha until it was as finely powdered as I could get it. I dished up vanilla ice cream as I would normally, then I sprinkled an even layer of powdered tea over the surface of the ice cream. The flavor blends in each spoonful as I eat it, and I could use the extra tea to powder over some of the lower layers. It makes a fun and slightly exotic alternative to sprinkles or chocolate. Now I wonder what other herbs would work well like that... Mmmm, the experiment-y goodness!
