Those of you who know me well would be well-supported to be wondering why I am suddenly going on about chocolate since I am typically such a die-hard vanilla fan.
I was at one of the local natural food stores and came upon a section filled with bars from the Dagoba Organic Chocolate Company. I remembered first perusing the site after following a link from the BPAL forums. The idea of high-chocolate-content bars intrigued me. It piqued my interest enough that when I found a Lindt bar with a significantly dark chocolate content, I tried one. The inner coffee-drinker in me rejoiced at the indulgence.
However, the Eclipse and Xocolatl bars on the rack were clamoring for attention. My inner imp danced, grabbed one of each, and proceeded to the checkout counter.
This evening, I opened the Eclipse bar. Comparing it to the Lindt dark chocolate was like trying to compare a lovingly made espresso at a small-but-thriving coffee shop to the dregs of the office coffee pot. Each bite was smooth and intense. It was the closest I've ever come to chocolate as a drug. Though I spent hours reading, then several more trying to sleep, the bar that titillated my taste buds around 7pm is still fueling vivid and powerful imagery and a sense of channeling the dance of the universe.
Vanilla may be my flavor-of-choice for frivolous desserts, but this stuff is truly the food of the gods. Tomorrow I try the Xocolatl-inspired bar. I have a feeling that I should have it much earlier in the day! Or perhaps I should take a few days of purification and meditation first, if I can wait that long...
