We've all heard the phrase, "carpe diem" or "seize the day". Some of us have used its variant, "carpe noctem".
Well, any of you linguaphiles out there, I would like to figure out what it would be to say, "seize the pun." My handy-dandy Latin dictionary suggests two words for pun: facetiae and logos. When I look up facetiae, it tells me that it means "wit, drollery, humour." Hmmm. Logos is, first and foremost, "a word," however it also carries the meaning "a joke, jest, bon mot". Considering that a pun is, essentially, a play on words, would logos not be the better translation? If any of you have taken or dabbled in Latin, do you know another word better suited to the task?
Should my motto, indeed, be "carpe logum?"
