The weekend before last, I decided to try a visit to the First Universalist Church of Rochester for a Sunday service. I liked it. I like what they have to say, and I think it's cool that it's an inclusive community. I can keep exploring a variety of spiritual approaches and still find a connection in their community. I'm seriously considering going back.

This past weekend, I got to head back to Buffalo for a Beltaine ritual and dinner at [livejournal.com profile] keepersrosered's and [livejournal.com profile] amberrattus's place. I'd been a little nervous about whether or not I'd reconnect with Pagan ritual after so much time spent exploring other avenues. I shouldn't have worried. The connections, feelings, and energy were all still there, and I had the added bonus of stronger visualization. It was a fun evening. I'm glad we got to be there.

On the flip side, my dad was having what my mom describes as "a challenging weekend." Relapse-ville. Yet, somehow, I was able to be sad and disappointed without being angry. It's as if it has permeated to my innards that confrontation and anger does not help the situation for anyone. I think even my dad was struck by the difference of approach. I didn't stifle my honesty, but I didn't push it into a shouting match either. Even if it doesn't help, it certainly didn't do any harm. I feel a lot better about my reaction to it.

Monday, [livejournal.com profile] dawnstar and I did lunch at the Openface Sandwich Eatery. Total foodgasm there. I had mushroom brie bisque, a black bean sandwich, marinated ginger carrots, and a small serving of their baguette chips. I wish I could eat foods that delicious every day. I will be going back sometime. Their "O" logo is apropos on a number of levels. ***grins*** While we were there, a camera-wielding woman from the Democrat and Chronicle came in to take pictures. She got me in one when I ordered, then took my name in case it gets used. Later, she asked if she could get a shot when our food arrived. We agreed and she got [livejournal.com profile] dawnstar's name too. The silly bit was that she got two shots. The first time he came out, he brought the wrong table's food. It smelled delicious, but wasn't what we ordered. So she got another chance when our food came out for real. It was funny, but cool.

We also wandered the South Wedge area. Apparently most places are closed on Monday. Ah well. We got to look in Obatala and Shango, a Santeria/Vodun supply shop. They had so many herbs, resins, and other interesting things. How many places up and sell saltpeter these days? It makes me want to pick [livejournal.com profile] amberrattus's and [livejournal.com profile] ninepointsatyr's brains about incense making.

It seems this Academic Achievement Awards Convocation at MCC is a bigger deal than I thought. The administrative assistant to the Dean of Health and Sciences called up so she could set a time for me to meet with him. Apparently, he's introducing the recipients and wants to conduct informal interviews of everybody before he writes their biographies for the Convocation. Damn... This is a lot more involved than I thought. That's what I get for having a 3.973 cumulative average when I graduated. Hee!
