Today was the day that the landlady was to come over. Initially I didn't know if I'd have the guts to come clean with her. In truth, it wasn't until it became obvious that she needed to peek at the place to see what needed fixing before inspection that I steeled myself to.

I started out with an apology for bringing cats into the house, and followed it with an apology that I wasn't honest with her the other day. I told her the story of Minerva and her kittens, followed by various details of their behavior and how many there were versus how many are left.

It went better than I could have hoped.

What I had hoped was that she, being a cat lover herself, would understand and go easy on us. She was glad I told her, saying that that kind of thing was something she ought to know. She reiterated that her problem had been more with them being litter trained than anything else. To that I added the story of Minerva's first days here, that she had never made a mess outside the litter box, and how we'd tried to find her people and failed.

At one point the landlady stated plainly that from a landlord's standpoint it probably wasn't a good thing, but from a personal standpoint she's glad we didn't turn Minerva out. She joked that if we'd done that, Minerva would have likely ended up on her doorstep. She'd told me stories of various cats she'd taken in over time.

She also said it was probably a good thing that we didn't say anything to her the other day. Her husband was here working on the window that day. She said that he has a tendency to look for excuses not to like tenants, though in her opinion it was none of his business. She even said that she'll give us plenty of notice before he needs to come here and work on the place so we can keep them out of sight while he's here.

Wow. That floored me.

So, all that panic of mine over her was unfounded, but she was even thankful that we didn't tell her husband when he was here. Just... Wow.

Blessings come in the most unlikely ways sometimes. I think I trust our landlady a lot more now. I certainly know that I'd go out of my way to help out with the house if need be, even more so than before.

She and I always end up talking a while when she is here. This time, that time was filled talking about cats, kittens, and kittening. I showed her one of the early pictures of Minerva with the whole litter. I thanked her profusely, letting her know again that I was sorry that I panicked and lied, regardless of the unexpected benefits of that.

***breathes a sigh of relief*** Now on to tackle what I need to do for Saturday...
