This morning, before my husband dropped me off at choir practice at First Universalist, I went to the front yard to peek. It turns out another raw egg had hit the shutter of our bedroom window: the one in the front with the sign. That makes a total of two raw, one boiled.

My next-door neighbor poked his head out of his window and let me know he saw the girl who did that: young, in her pjs, black, not wearing shoes. He yelled at her and she ran. He didn't get downstairs fast enough to see which house she ran into, but his opinion is that she was from the yellow house right on the other side of his. This isn't the first time he'd let me know of people hanging around when they oughtn't be. He may blast R&B out of his SUV some days, but he's definitely a concerned neighbor.

Regarding the yellow house she supposedly ran to, it is the same house in front of which the woman in the van accosted my about my sign the day I carried it home from the Equal Marriage Rally. If it's the girl I think it is, she used to say hi and be nice to me. I got to pet her dogs once. Her younger brothers ride Aidan's bus to school. Aidan calls them friends. Sadder still, the parents may have encouraged her to do it.

It makes me want to buy a rainbow flag to join the sign.

Wait... is that the same girl who came over and joined us when we were playing catch with Aidan in the side yard this past spring/summer?

Nope, that was Mikhaia (if I spelled that at all correctly), the granddaughter of the folks who used to live in the downstairs apartment of the blue house. Those folks moved out, so I don't see her anymore.

Yes, that's right. Now that you mention her name, I remember thinking it was a beautiful name (though I'd have had no idea how to spell it either).

*sends you hugs, and love, and hopes of no further ickiness from bigoted neighbors*

Don't let these petty, immature twits get you down. Throwing eggs is childish -- reminischent of fifth grade halloween pranks. Just pity them for the imbeciles that they are.

reminischent? Oh my, I haven't even started my margarita yet! :O

Indeed. Carrying and hanging the sign has shown me what kind of internal strength people who have same-sex partners have to have in the face of this kind of bullshit and more.

If you think you know who did it, call the police. I'll bet a visit to her house from the cops will keep her from doing it again ... and potentially doing more damage to your home.

I am considering filing a police report to get it on the record in case anything else happens, especially since my neighbor is an eyewitness. I am not usually one to make waves, though. It is going to take screwing up some courage to do it.

The sort of thing that makes me hate the world, equal and opposite reaction to the way your posts on the rally made me feel.

***hugs lots*** There are definitely twatwaffles out there. There are also some excellent people. I consider myself lucky to know a hefty number. It makes times like this easier.
