She hadn't planned on spending as much time in the hospital today as she did yesterday. Then the nephrologist decided that the waste levels in his blood was getting too high. They put my Dad on hemo-dialysis. I asked her if that was going to be another "for the rest of his life" thing like periodically needing to drain the fluid in his abdomen. She didn't know.
Last night she said that my Dad was feeling like he might not get home again. It's certainly a possibility. Today, she was wondering if it is really worth it to disrupt things enough to send him all the way to Strong for more tests when it isn't likely that he'll be put on the list for a liver transplant. I can see her point. He's very weak and uncomfortable as it is. She hasn't talked to my Dad's main doctor yet. He's the one who has given them all the serious explanations so far. I am interested to hear what the doctor has to say about her question.
One of the NPs said my Dad needed to get his blood protein up. He managed to eat about a quarter cup of chicken. Then, suddenly enough that the aides needed to come in with new sheets and a new gown, he vomited it all up. So much for getting his blood protein up.
My Mom said she'd call me back later.
