I believe I mentioned here that Aidan got into the MAP program. About a week ago I got a call asking us what school we'd like Aidan to head into since 43 MAP was full. So, #23 was now to be his school. Yesterday I finally got bus information... saying that his bus will start coming on Monday... Um... Yeah...

Today's the first day of school. We waited outside anyway, in case the bus came. Nope.

So, [livejournal.com profile] mechanchaos and I drove him in.

First impression: There are a lot of sculptures around the building grounds, most of which look like a student had a hand in them. The neighborhood is definitely Park Avenue: big, beautiful houses, lots of trees, narrow streets, a much more diverse-looking group of kids going in than had been in Aidan's previous school.

The principal stood outside the front door. When we introduced ourselves and Aidan, she recognized that he was a MAP fourth grader, remembered which classroom he was in and who was his teacher, and pointed out where he was to go.

Turns out there was a coffee time for parents at 9 in the Library. We didn't have tons of time, but we had enough to go.

There are student quilts on the walls. They have Lego and robotics teams for older students. There were more parents in the library for coffee hour than there were at 34 for most of the parent activities. The school itself is a smaller building than either 34 or 43. It has a homey feel to it. His teacher looks like a warm person.

Damn. This all came together at the last minute, but I can't help feeling like we scored out of the deal...
