OK, so getting to the doctor today worked out decently this morning. Grumble a little over the $20 copay. The guy looks at it, agrees that it is likely a sprain, but thinks that it would be safer to get xrays anyway, just to be sure. We pick up Aidan from school, stop home so John can call his boss and tell him he might be late, then hurry over to the place that does the xrays.

This is where things get icky. First, we're slapped with ANOTHER $20 copay. Sure, it's a different building, but it is still Lifetime Health. Then we wait... I'm called in, led to a hall with dressing cubbies on one side and seating on the other. My instructions are to take off my left shoe and sock, put on one of those cheap hospital footies, and wait... and wait... and wait...

Finally I'm taken in for my pics. When those were done, I had to wait some more so she could develop them and look at them. During that time, I overheard a woman telling her son it was 12:30, the time John ought to be leaving to get to work by 1, like his boss had told him earlier. Finally, the technician comes back out, hands me some paperwork to take to the front desk, and says nothing more.

When I got out, John had just called his boss who, to John, sounded unhappy about things. We hurried home so John could head out. I'm left feeling... odd. I doubt she would have said nothing if there really was a break in there. On the other hand, I wish I had the doctor's word on what would be best for a sprain. Really, I wish I just knew either way. I think they're going to be calling later with further info. It's weird not knowing for sure what's going to happen next. This, and having had to spend almost as much as an ER visit anyway. ***frowns grumpily*** It doesn't encourage me to actually see a doctor for things like this.

Anyhow, I ought to keep the phone line free in case they call.

I'm sorry you're lonely. If you like, I could try to come by at some point. Failing that, I could call you. I tried a bit ago, but it was busy - probably as you were posting this. I'll wait a while before I try though, in case you're still waiting to hear from them.

Basically, though, for a sprain the best things you can do are frequent ice, ibuprofen (tylenol 3 isn't as good of an idea because it's not an anti-inflammatory, and that's what you really need right now), elevation, and staying off it as much as possible.

In the meantime, if you need anything, call me. I haven't yet showered today because I've been doing housework and it seemed backwards to get myself clean and then work on scrubbing away mold and/or doing dishes, etc. But I'll probably do that soon. So if you want company or just want to chat, I'll be around. If I don't answer, it's probably because I'm still in the shower. :)

Actually, it was a combination of Tylenol 3, Acetaminophen, and Naproxen. We don't currently have any Ibuprofin in the house. The stuff I'd had turned out to have expired back in the '90s. I'd chucked it a few days ago, not knowing it might come in handy.

Luckily, Aidan agreed to settle down with a movie with me. We both napped for a good long time. That helped. Now it's dinnertime though, so I'm making mac and cheese with tuna and broccoli. I'm in the home stretch. John'll be back in a few hours. I wish I knew where our slender ace bandage went to. I thought I knew, but its not where I've looked.

If you don't find the Ace, let me know. I have one you can borrow if you need to and I could bring it over tomorrow.

Naproxen should help some, as it is also an anti-inflammatory.

Been thinking about you all day. *hugs*

***hugs back lots***

I'll certainly let you know if we still can't find the ace bandage. ***hugs more***

To be honest, last night the Tylenol 3 was more to distance me from the oww. John said I looked baked. It did work. I didn't have any of that today though. Just some of the more conventional stuff.

***and more hugs for good measure***

ACK. *lots and lots of hugs* Sometimes, doctors can really suck. Out loud. In technicolor.
