We just got back from Rochester Generel Pediatric ER.
What started out scary ended up being not so scary. About 12:30 Aidan woke up with a loud, hacking, wheezing cough. He was coughing hard enough to sound like he was going to vomit. He didn't vomit. Instead he tells us he swallowed a lego. Off to the ER. They say, except for what Aidan is telling us, he sounds like he has Croup. The triage nurse says this, the resident says this, the doctor she brought for a second opinion says this. So, far from being as scary as a swallowed lego, we get to learn about a kiddo virus.
To their credit, the Rochester Generel ER had us into the pediatric unit and seeing the triage nurse directly after finishing paperwork. Not 10 minutes later the resident was checking him out. They gave him a dose of medicine designed to lessen swelling of the throat mixed into part of a popsicle. He didn't like the taste of that, but took enough bites to keep the meds down. We were in there an hour and a half all told.
The down side is, at least for kiddos, its contagious. Usually kids outgrow it by age 5, but older kiddos can get it too.
I'll leave the choice up to folks as to whether they still want to gather here. Aidan is in good spirits except for occasional coughing and wheezing. Now we know how to deal with attacks of it. Now we know it isn't a freakin' lego. I know I would like the company, but I can fully understand if folks don't want to hang out here.
Soup is still being made. Folks are still welcome. Let me know if you'd prefer not to come over. Heck, a good dose of homemade chicken soup might bolster everyone's immune system. ***grins*** Anyhow, I really ought to o to sleep. ***makes silly snoring sounds***
At least it is something relatively common and ought to be gone by 5 days. Even if schools are open tomorrow, he will be staying home. Poor little guy. He charmed all the folks there, though. It's more like a cold plus. Mostly it's just like he has a cold. But sometimes he gets icky coughing attacks. It was scary when we didn't know what it was. Especially when he said he'd swallowed a lego. Good thing that wasn't the case.
I'm rambling... It's 3AM... Sleep... Sleep good.... mmmmm... sleep....
