It felt so great to include [livejournal.com profile] dawnstar, [livejournal.com profile] hbbtrbbtbcnbt, and [livejournal.com profile] ecwoodburn along with [livejournal.com profile] mechanchaos and I to Vertex Friday night. I think the evening was definitely a success.

Here I've been absorbing a bit of that particular subculture of our circle of friends, and now I feel I've been able to contribute some of my own personal culture to the mix. To know that you folks had fun most deeply makes my day.

I'd love to do that again sometime. "The more the merrier", as the proverbial "they" say.

It was a bit of a bummer that some random Vertexian collided with me, unintentionally raking the heel of his boot down the same portion of my ankle that is scarred from surgery. A little bruised, a little sore, missed out on dancing to some of my favorite songs, but it will be o.k. Nothing serious.

[livejournal.com profile] hbbtrbbtbcnbt put it best when she quoted, "You threw off my groove..." That was exactly what the guy did. At least he had the state of mind and the wherewithal to apologize before I stumbled to the bench.

After a late evening (morning by the time we got to bed...), we got a late start Saturday morning. Ah well. I always like a bit of a challenge in creative driving directions, so I took us off I-90 at exit 41 and proceeded to take a country-road shortcut to 81 South. Turned out we were less than 10 minutes late despite not leaving the house until 10:30, and not totally getting underway until 10:45. Considering we were supposed to be in Lisle at 1, we made good time.

Overall we had fun. Lunch was yummy, and our hostess treated several of us to dinner at Aiello's. Mmmm...calzones... I wish I had the willpower to say no to all that cheese! but I digress.

Lots of chat afterwards, rife with the inside jokes and innuendo that are always amusing about hanging out with Empire folks. Still, I realized that many of the things that were most often criticized in others were fairly petty. It left me hiding some of those more sensitive details of myself and wondering what they say about me once we leave for home. ***sighs*** Don't get me wrong, I have fun at Empire events. I just appreciate the common ground, understanding, and caring among those I've been spending more time with of late.

Between the last couple days, I'm left with a sense of appreciation for our local friends. Thank you. It is nice to know that friendship is indeed so much more than a little fair-weather fun. ***big hugs to all of you***
