(Snippet 1)Fingers, deft fingers. Adrian's world narrowed to include just the feel of the coarse rope positioned and fastened around her gooseprickled flesh. She had assumed he was a halfwit, but he had no intention of stopping until she fully understood the extent of his genius. When he was pleased with the pattern of knots securing her to the welded steel rungs, Adrian affixed a fresh blade to his x-acto knife with the artful nonchalance of a master of the tea ceremony.

(Snippet 2)His slow blink was the only outward sign of the of the memory welling within. "Thank you for your order. Have a nice day, Mr. Schuller." Adrian did not see the end call button. He felt the press of taunting classmates. He relived the day Michael's fist battered its way into Adrian's soul. His pen tore the page of his notebook as he swiftly copied down the address. A smirk briefly twisted his lips before he pressed the button to accept another call. "Hello. Thank you for calling Bankcroft Limited. My name is Adrian Conroy. How may I help you today?"

(Snippet 3)Morning light crept past the dusty blinds and nudged Adrian awake. A flicker of a smile deformed his mouth, but his blinking eyes remained cold. The cat that had curled up on the bed fled the slow simmer of frustration that had not been sluiced away by sleep. He fumbled through his bachelor's detritus to get to the closet.

"ERN-ERN-ERN..." Adrian ignored the tardy alarm clock and pulled on a clean white shirt. It was Monday, so he grabbed his grey twill pants and matching polyester tie.

(Background)Thursday in Advanced Composition, after the bulk of the work for the day, my professor asked us to create a character that was our evil twin, Jekyll and Hyde style. Thus, I met Adrian. So now I have my very own voice-in-my-head psychopath. I can't say I'm complaining though. His life is much more interesting than mine at the moment.
