OK, so the car isn't done yet... It may not be done until tomorrow afternoon.
Yesterday the estimate on repairs needed to pass inspection and keep it running for another year escalated from about $500 to about $1000 within the course of a single phone call to the place looking at the vehicle. They said then that they'd have it done by 5:30 today. John and his mom went to pick it up and came back looking grave.
Among other things, it turns out that without asking our permission, they cut through a pipe in some part of the exhaust system to get at another part of the car. I admit, I don't know a lot about cars, car parts, and the repair and maintainence thereof... Still, One would think that folks would let us know before going into more invasive maneuvers than were originally discussed in the estimate.
I don't know what we're going to do if they don't have the thing at least in driveable condition by the time we pick it up tomorrow.
mechanchaos needs to work at 8:00pm.
Apparently, Oakwood (the repair shop) had been a place used and trusted by
mechanchaos' family for a long while. So, our current situation is rather uncharacteristic of them. Still, I'm cringing at the sheer enormity of the bill, even though we'll only be responsible for about half of it. A big thank you to
mechanchaos' parents for assisting us with that.
I'm getting rather tired of the yo-yo line the repair folks have us on at the moment.
