OK, so the car isn't done yet... It may not be done until tomorrow afternoon.

Yesterday the estimate on repairs needed to pass inspection and keep it running for another year escalated from about $500 to about $1000 within the course of a single phone call to the place looking at the vehicle. They said then that they'd have it done by 5:30 today. John and his mom went to pick it up and came back looking grave.

Among other things, it turns out that without asking our permission, they cut through a pipe in some part of the exhaust system to get at another part of the car. I admit, I don't know a lot about cars, car parts, and the repair and maintainence thereof... Still, One would think that folks would let us know before going into more invasive maneuvers than were originally discussed in the estimate.

I don't know what we're going to do if they don't have the thing at least in driveable condition by the time we pick it up tomorrow. [livejournal.com profile] mechanchaos needs to work at 8:00pm.

Apparently, Oakwood (the repair shop) had been a place used and trusted by [livejournal.com profile] mechanchaos' family for a long while. So, our current situation is rather uncharacteristic of them. Still, I'm cringing at the sheer enormity of the bill, even though we'll only be responsible for about half of it. A big thank you to [livejournal.com profile] mechanchaos' parents for assisting us with that.

I'm getting rather tired of the yo-yo line the repair folks have us on at the moment.

*eeks* While it'd be neat if we were in the area at the same time, instead of trading places ... I wouldn't exacty /wish/ for you to get stranded down there. Especially since John has to work! :( It would only be neat under GOOD circumstances.

Hope everything works out. *keeps fingers crossed for you*

*big hugs* Miss you!

Not looking forward...

Not looking forward to confrontation and bitching people out but if they need it they need it. I am not going to pay for something I did not give authorization for them to change. On top of everything else while I was at midas last time they told me they could not replace my front pipe unless they ordered it and it would be about a week. So I didn't have them fix that pipe. They also told me that it was discontinued and that no part chains carry it including ford. So I am sure that tomarrow will be blissful and fun.grrrr... Draws bow. Pulls arrow of slaying "mechanic"...

*hugs*

We've had that happen before, and it totally sucks. I'm so sorry that you guys are getting pelted with it now. I would definitely be disputing the bill.

Matt says that if you need more artilery, to give him a shout ;)

Re: Not looking forward...

Thankfully there really was no need to do so. I appreciate the support though. See you guys soon :)

Sorry to hear...yeah, expensive car repairs suck, especially when at least semi-unauthorized. :(
