The weekend before last, I decided to try a visit to the First Universalist Church of Rochester for a Sunday service. I liked it. I like what they have to say, and I think it's cool that it's an inclusive community. I can keep exploring a variety of spiritual approaches and still find a connection in their community. I'm seriously considering going back.

This past weekend, I got to head back to Buffalo for a Beltaine ritual and dinner at [livejournal.com profile] keepersrosered's and [livejournal.com profile] amberrattus's place. I'd been a little nervous about whether or not I'd reconnect with Pagan ritual after so much time spent exploring other avenues. I shouldn't have worried. The connections, feelings, and energy were all still there, and I had the added bonus of stronger visualization. It was a fun evening. I'm glad we got to be there.

On the flip side, my dad was having what my mom describes as "a challenging weekend." Relapse-ville. Yet, somehow, I was able to be sad and disappointed without being angry. It's as if it has permeated to my innards that confrontation and anger does not help the situation for anyone. I think even my dad was struck by the difference of approach. I didn't stifle my honesty, but I didn't push it into a shouting match either. Even if it doesn't help, it certainly didn't do any harm. I feel a lot better about my reaction to it.

Monday, [livejournal.com profile] dawnstar and I did lunch at the Openface Sandwich Eatery. Total foodgasm there. I had mushroom brie bisque, a black bean sandwich, marinated ginger carrots, and a small serving of their baguette chips. I wish I could eat foods that delicious every day. I will be going back sometime. Their "O" logo is apropos on a number of levels. ***grins*** While we were there, a camera-wielding woman from the Democrat and Chronicle came in to take pictures. She got me in one when I ordered, then took my name in case it gets used. Later, she asked if she could get a shot when our food arrived. We agreed and she got [livejournal.com profile] dawnstar's name too. The silly bit was that she got two shots. The first time he came out, he brought the wrong table's food. It smelled delicious, but wasn't what we ordered. So she got another chance when our food came out for real. It was funny, but cool.

We also wandered the South Wedge area. Apparently most places are closed on Monday. Ah well. We got to look in Obatala and Shango, a Santeria/Vodun supply shop. They had so many herbs, resins, and other interesting things. How many places up and sell saltpeter these days? It makes me want to pick [livejournal.com profile] amberrattus's and [livejournal.com profile] ninepointsatyr's brains about incense making.

It seems this Academic Achievement Awards Convocation at MCC is a bigger deal than I thought. The administrative assistant to the Dean of Health and Sciences called up so she could set a time for me to meet with him. Apparently, he's introducing the recipients and wants to conduct informal interviews of everybody before he writes their biographies for the Convocation. Damn... This is a lot more involved than I thought. That's what I get for having a 3.973 cumulative average when I graduated. Hee!

We should do another lunch-date sometime soon, to use that $10 coupon of yours. :)

Yeah, these awards things are serious business.

I wish you quiche, cuz that was the best part of mine--after my favorite prof declaring his undying love for me (I can hear it any way I want).

From: [identity profile] blackfelicula.livejournal.com

We could do that. That coupon has been sitting there for... a long time now.

From: [identity profile] blackfelicula.livejournal.com

Ooooooooo. Quiche would be excellent. I'm so glad I'm not vegetarian, vegan, or prone to food allergies.

Unfortunately, my favorite-favorite professor retired the semester before I graduated. Fortunately, I have five favorite professors. :) I'll need to polish up my Phi Theta Kappa pin for the occasion... (and take it off my winter coat) ***frets about what to wear***

*grins* I'm available whenever, pretty much. Let me know when you've got an afternoon free. :)

Which reminds me. Do you want to do groceries together on Friday?

From: [identity profile] blackfelicula.livejournal.com

Re: Friday. I wasn't planning on having the car until after [livejournal.com profile] mechanchaos gets home. About 3:30ish or later. If you want, we could go later, or use yours and go earlier. Or if those don't sound like they'd work, we could forgo the together groceries this week.

From: [identity profile] dustkitten.livejournal.com

Did we get pins? Oh right. I have no clue where mine is.

Just wear something nice. Ours wasn't fancy, but then, it was in the morning.

I'd never had quiche before. It was sooo good. One had mushrooms, and the other had...broccoli? But I couldn't get to that one.

Now I'm hungry. :)

Two comments with one stone

I need to find my PTK pin. I think it's in my jewelry box. I also need to contact them and see about getting a new certificate with the right name on it, since I graduated with a different name than I started PTK with. :)

Also, Friday should be doable with my car. If you want to get back into doing them together, we can take turns or something, and this week can be my turn. :)

Incensed

Wait, there are occult, Vodun, and incense-materials stores in Rochester? Dumb us were looking in Ohio and Toronto. Don't worry about asking for tips, ninepointsatyr and I may drive down there just for the shopping! We're overdue for a visit anyway.

Re: Incensed

The woman at the counter was very friendly. They had copal and several resins, many, many herbs. Saltpeter was what caught my eye. I don't know if they'd have exactly what you need, but I'd be willing to bet that a good conversation with the proprietor might help even if the myriad jars on the shelves don't.

That, and there's wonderful food in the area too: a cheesecake shop, an upscale sandwich eatery, and all sorts of interesting goodies in that neighborhood. I'd be delighted to take you there! It would be excellent to have a visit as well. You could pet the all-grown-up Leo!

Hi! I'm Stephanie, a friend of [livejournal.com profile] dawnstar's. She mentioned to you that I'm looking to go into the spiritual guidence aspect, and thought that I should chat with you some.

If you'd not mind, I'd like to add you to my friend's list and chat on some kind of instant messenger, or email. Let me know what will work best for you.

Take care!

I wouldn't mind at all. My current major is Philosophy and Religion, and I'm looking into the possibility of Interfaith Ministry (alongside investigation of professorship.) These days on AIM I use the screen name blackfelicula. Sometimes I also use HeronSinger. [livejournal.com profile] dawnstar mentioned that your journal is friends-only. Do you mind if I add you back?

From: [identity profile] kalonja.livejournal.com

I have you added to my AIM list, my public screen name is faerie freckles. (I have a private IM name, and I can give that to you at a later date, if you'd like. Or, you could also ask [livejournal.com profile] dawnstar for it.)

Adding me back is perfectly fine! I added you first, in hopes that we could befriend. ^_^

I do hope I can chat with you sometime soon, as I'm seeing that you're not quite online at the moment. Take care!

Sounds good. I apologize that I don't spend tons of time online, with my March-July ESC term in full swing. Also, I'll be out of town this weekend for a family-type gathering. If I don't see you online this week, I'll probably be on sometime next week. In the meantime, I have a gmail address with the same username. (Once I find one I like, I tend to stick with it awhile. :) )
