Not too long ago I got a call from mom. They don't know much more. The doc says it could be hepatitis or alcohol damage. At this point they just don't know. They were going to drain something like 5 liters of fluid from his abdomen, but can't because his blood is so thin right now. He hasn't even been on blood thinners to get it that way. They're adding, if I remember correctly, vitamin K to his IV in the hopes that it will help his blood thicken up so they can proceed.
At the very least he'll be in the hospital another 4-5 days. If this is hepatitis, he might get away with some liver damage but otherwise be doing alright. If this is cirrhosis, well... I don't know what the prognosis is in that case. I'm trying to be prepared for the worst...
My mom is just hoping it's hepatitis. She's not even taking the mental next step. I don't think she knows what she'd do if he passes away. It's scary stuff.
Preaching to the choir, my mom warned me to take care of my liver.
I am having trouble getting this off my mind. My dad and I haven't always gotten along. Still, it would be really weird to lose him when he's 63 going on 64. Despite everything, I care about him. My worry is preoccupying me. I realize that there's nothing I can do to find out more quickly. I know that my mom will keep me updated. If she doesn't have any news tomorrow -- and thus does not call -- I will likely call her anyway to see how she's doing. I keep picturing her rattling around that big old house of theirs, starting things and getting distracted. She visits him, but is having trouble dealing with the hospital environment. She is likely lonely there. I worry about her as much as I worry about him.

Thank you for your support. We're still planning on being in Buffalo in 2 weeks (Friday night the 9th of March to Sunday night the 11th of March.) A diversion might be nice, if you have the time. I understand if schedules don't work out. Let me know what you think, either here, on email (I think my address is in my profile), or on the forums.
I wish you a good week!

I'll try to iron it all out this week, and if we're not going anywhere, I'd love to see you. I haven't been to the forums lately, (haven't had the budget lately, so I've been avoiding driving myself mad) but I'd love a meet and sniff!

I haven't been buying nearly as much from BPAL lately, myself, but I seem to be addicted to the forums just as surely... ;)
