Today I spent the day doing something I hadn't in quite some time. I made bread. Mmmm. Bread. This time, rather than slavishly follow a recipe I didn't have (one for bread using 100% whole wheat flour, cooked wheat berries, and rolled oats), I looked at the range of information I had from several recipes, looked at the things I wanted to put in, and made my own. The two loaves just came out of the oven a little while ago. Warm whole wheat bread with raisins in it is very yum. :) I hope my recipe gets picked by the SparkPeople folks to be shared around.

Almost forgot to add: I'm at 226 now.

Did you keep track of what you were doing, 'cause it sounds yummy and now I want to try it. Also FYI, we tried a recipe for black bean soup tonight - delish. And it's vegetarian too.

I did keep track, typed it up in a .doc file, and even plugged it into SparkRecipe, the recipe site that goes with SparkPeople. Since there's interest, I'll have to post it one of these days.

You're doing awesome. I keep stalling out. I want to plead child-induced exhaustion, but that's not going to stop spring and summer from coming, and me still being unable to wear my own freakin' clothes. Grr.

I've yo-yo dieted and stalled out time after time before. I can totally relate. ***hugs*** Every day is a new chance. It sounds like you're doing awesome in other ways: research into homeschooling, crafting, quilting, baking. That same child-induced exhaustion can contribute to exercise. One step at a time gets the ball rolling.

I'm interested in the recipe too. I've never baked with /only/ whole-wheat flour; I always just substitute it for part of the flour and use all-purpose (unbleached) flour for the rest.

One of the recipes I looked at was for only whole wheat flour, so I figured it wouldn't hurt to try. It didn't rise as quickly or as far as some of my white flour loaves, but it is so soft and yummy! Then again, my piece for the day was hot out of the oven ;). I'll have to format the recipe for LJ one of these days.

Re: we're definetly trying that

Thanks for the congratulations. I have a present weight goal of 150. None of my clothes fit right at the moment: everything is too big. Yet, I just can't justify spending a load of cash on a new wardrobe until I'm down further still. Photos can wait until then. ;) (Besides, you knew me when I was in the 160-170 range back in the day. I won't be much different from that anyway. Well, older...)

Mmm. Homemade bread is so worthwhile. Just make sure you have a day for it, since rising times can be a bitch. If the yeast doesn't foam up in a couple minutes in the yeast/sugar/water mix discard it and try just that part again. I've killed more than one loaf of bread by not proofing the yeast! You'll be making homemade bread all your own in no time! (This recipe did turn out rather dense when it cooled, but a little Brummel and Brown or the butter-substitute of your choice makes up for that.

Let me know how it turns out!
