I got a call today from the woman who is in charge of scheduling at my gynecologist's office. I now have an official date for my hysterectomy. It's going to be on Wednesday, July 25 at Highland Hospital. On Monday, July 16 I have a combined pre-op visit and annual gynecological exam. Since the August schedule isn't put together yet, I don't have a date set yet for a post-op visit, but she assured me that these were the important ones to get in early. She'll be calling again in early May to talk about the post-op.

This is just the next step in the process. It feels good to have a concrete date to start to plan around. Now it's not "maybe late July, maybe early August." If you can, keep me in your thoughts on July 25.

Now to get as healthy as I can get before then!

I'll make sure we schedule any visits to my Dad (his bday is July 26th) so they don't conflict with being there for you! *hughug*

***hugs lots*** I'm hoping I'll be out of the hospital by the weekend following the operation, but I'm really going to leave those decisions up to the docs. I'm just so glad I now have a definitive time frame to count down until I am no longer a bloody hole.

***hugs*** Thanks. I've been fighting for so long to get this. I'm looking forward to it, pain and all.

Well, if you need someone to talk to afterwards, let me know. I am glad you are at least looking forward to it. The first two weeks are the worst!

My Mom and my Mother-in-Law have both had them, so I have a decent idea of the realities of the procedure. When I was making the decision to go the cut-my-guts-out route, I pictured it in all the goriest detail my imagination could summon. I'll be keeping my ovaries, so I don't have to worry about hormones so much. And I get to say goodbye to my menorrhagia for good. The pain of the operation and recovery is worth that peace of mind.

Excellent! I shall keep happy thoughts for you in my poor hungover brain... my birthday is the day before. *g*

Thank you! (And I wish you a good birthday-in-a-few-months.)

I don't think I mentioned before that my mother has had the same symptoms since my little sister was born. Her doctor recommended a hysterectomy but she was too scared of the surgery. I'm glad that you're taking that step toward a better quality of life and I hope everything goes well. Good luck.

Thank you for wishing me good luck!

Surgery can definitely be a scary prospect. I hope your Mom either finds relief in some way or makes choices that can bring her towards relief. I find that many women I talk to seem shocked that I'm looking forward to the hysterectomy. I'm just exultant that my bleeding will be more finite than I am.

Stupid work... cannot see these when they are posted. I think you know how I feel about things. I am glad for you that you are getting what you want. I know it will be scary for you. Hopefully I can take your mind off of things.

***hugs lots*** I think it would be helpful if you could take time off that week. We can talk about it, though. I love you, and I deeply appreciate your support.

haha it's about damn time!

it's a tough thing to hear that yer getting it done but at the same time, considering the YEARS of trouble you've had, it's also a sigh of relief. i'm glad they're going to finally get it done. my buddy's girlfriend, who is about yer age, had one done due to similar problems, and they actually did a slight "tuck" to pull her belly in while they were down there and yeah there is a scar but now that she's recovered(had it done last year) she's looking and feeling GREAT. still has to watch stairs, lifting heavy objects and "pushing herself" but aide from that...

yeah i guess when ya get this done yer sex drive can go 2 ways. nil, or hyperactive. hers went hyperactive..lol.. somehow i think i know what'll happen fer you and in that case, grats to yer hubby lol. he's gonna be one tired boy once yer healed muhahahahaha

Re: haha it's about damn time!

It'll take 6-8 weeks to heal up, but it's worth it to finally escape being a bloody hole. I used to be relatively unsqueamish about bloody sex. Now it just turns me off. Yeah... I think I know what's going to happen for me. [livejournal.com profile] mechanchaos, look out, here I come!
