I noticed that comments to my last post misunderstood the core of my meaning. I have since edited it to put it more plainly.

In brief, I wasn't pessimistic about the outcome of the election. I was pessimistic about the state of our electoral system. It doesn't function properly anymore. I don't want an army of lawyers and judges deciding who runs the country. It is no longer in the hands of the people, though the powers that be are making a media spectacle to try to convince us that it is.
