It seems that what I meant by this was misunderstood. I'm not saying anyone won the presidential election. My reference to the Roman Empire has more to do with the breakdown of the execution of American ideals. Gone are the days of clear thinking and decisive voting. This will be the second presidential election in a row that will be decided by marginalities: lawyers and judges making the call. The electoral college is no longer useful. It is but another media circus. I voted. Everyone I've talked to has voted, but rather than finding a competent leader to stand for us all, we are bickering over minutia. I believe that our society is slowly disintegrating the foundations it was built upon. Great nations rise and fall. I believe ours is falling, slowly but surely.

It's not over yet. I know I'm just about the ONLY person who seems to feel this way, but there are still three states unfinished - Ohio, Iowa, and New Mexico - according to the news sources we were reading this morning. It still CAN go either way. Maybe it's a slim hope, but I prefer that to despair.

I'm probably just opening myself up to flaming by commenting this (which is ultimately why I haven't posted it in my own LJ), but... I dunno.

I know Ohio's still up for grabs -- that's going to be the real deciding factor -- but the fact that the Constipated Chimp is already declaring victory is disheartening.

Logically, I'm hoping those provisional, absentee and overseas ballots do the trick. Emotionally, I'm preparing for the worst. (And considering a long visit to my cousin in Germany, though only half-seriously.)

There's just no way to know whether or not the absentee ballots and provisional ballots would break for Kerry or for Bush. Hell, we still don't have a good number as to how many there are.

I guess only time will tell. :p

Wow, I'm not the only one thinking this...it's not over yet. I am not at all comfortable with thinking that either one won just yet. I won't be posting anything to my LJ. There's no need or reason for me to do so.
