OK so the first step is over with, now into the hurry up and wait. They took me in, tried to take a urine sample but I was bleeding too much, then did a standard weight and blood pressure check. I talked to the NP about my history and what's going on currently. She was easy to talk to, and friendly about it. She went ahead and did a pap smear (attempt - we're hoping the period won't affect that adversely) just because I hadn't had one in so long. She palpated my uterus (ouch, that was tender). After the undressied stuff, I got to redress and talk over what's going to happen next. She gave me an order for a slew of bloodwork that requires me to fast first, and another for a pelvic ultrasound to check the thickness of the lining of my uterus. Both are at different locations. The ultrasound was one I needed to make an appointment for. After I got home, I did that. Thursday the 25th at 1:30pm. We don't know what John's schedule for next week though, other than there's at least a chance he'll have that off, or be able to work around it. The good news of the appointment was at the end though. She asked me if I wanted to be given something to stop the bleeding. My response was something to the effect of "yeah, I'm kinda sick of this. Thank you very much!" So she gave me two packs of a uniform-dose birth control pill with the instructions to take two right away, two at night. I'm to do the same tomorrow, then two in the a.m. one in the p.m after that, gradually reducing the amount until I'm taking one a day. I am sooooo looking forward to getting rid of the bleeding!

Soooo, there could be any number of things causing it, but the likely treatment will be hormone therapy, aka being on hormonal birth control of some sort or another steadily. Overall it feels good to have started the first step of things. I didn't realize exactly how nervous about it all that I'd been until I fell to pieces in the car on the way home. I'm still nervous about things, but I'm relieved to have means to end the bleeding.

*huuuuuuuuugggggggs*

I'm glad that the appointment went good, at least that there's now something being done to find out what the problem is. If you need transportation for the 25th, I would be very willing to help. *more hugs*

*hugtight* I thought they might give you BC pills of some sort, at least to start. Glad they were able to at least give you a course of action to follow.

Assuming job stuff doesn't come up in the meantime, if [livejournal.com profile] mechanchaos ends up working I can be a driving backup. s:)

Apparently I'm slow on the uptake today, since Kristen and Beth both posted before I had a chance to. But I will echo their sentiments that hopefully this is the beginnings of progress.
