I always seem to have interesting, entertaining, or just plain odd dreams. I've intended for years to try to write them down somewhere, but I never seem to stick with it. I'm going to try to start using this space as a dream diary, in addition to my not-so-regularly scheduled programming.

This morning's dream:

At first, [livejournal.com profile] mechanchaos and I were at my parent's place in Buffalo. It was a sunny morning of indeterminate season. In my mind were the details of packing up to head home or out. The plan had been to leave our son there to give us a break. For some reason, [livejournal.com profile] mechanchaos suggested that we take Aidan with us and just get a sitter. My mom protested that it made more sense to leave him with them. She was right, really, and we agreed.

We set out to: well, at first it was just home, but then it was a vacation in Massachusetts, somewhere near a beach. Somewhere along the line we heard that there was going to be a free Carbon Leaf concert at the beach. We head over to the beach during the day and went swimming, even though the weather was rather cold. It was half winter, half spring in a way that it was sunny out, but there was still snow piled up toward where the sand met the ground. There was still snow bits floating in the water too.

As sunset approached (at the wrong angle for Massachusetts, but the right one for looking at Lake Ontario) a crowd began to gather. I found a ledge about 20 feet from the stage setup, which I straddled, while [livejournal.com profile] mechanchaos stood near me on my left side. Totally uncharacteristic of him, [livejournal.com profile] mechanchaos was being jovial and sociable with a bunch of guys near us. There was an awkward moment when one of them walked over and kissed my knee. I pointedly ignored it as a mistake, until he went around the other side of the ledge and repeated with my right knee. I gave him a stern look, shook my head no, and pointed toward [livejournal.com profile] mechanchaos, then toward my wedding ring. He left me alone after that.

The music started, and oddly, few were moving close. I asked [livejournal.com profile] mechanchaos if he minded if I went up to the front, and whether he was interested in joining me or staying where he was. He opted to stay there. So I moved forward, enjoying the show. It's neat to have a concert in a dream where I hear the real songs. Unfortunately, I'm blanking on which, now that I'm awake. Thing is, by this time in the dream, night had fallen. It was much colder. Being an outdoor show, the band would play two to three songs, then take a break to warm up. Somehow I managed to make my way behind the stage to find out that that was the reason for the frequent stops. Carter ended up recognizing me. He asked if I had any requests, they weren't interested in playing any of the songs I asked about.

During one of the songs, I noticed that a whole lot of the folks that [livejournal.com profile] mechanchaos had been hanging out with had moved forward. They were acting rude and rowdy. Then [livejournal.com profile] mechanchaos was up there as well. He was just as rowdy and rollicking. I went over and asked him if he was drunk. He giggled and said, yes, he was. I don't remember much of what happened after that and before I woke up.

The oddest thing about this was that [livejournal.com profile] mechanchaos's actions in this dream were so uncharacteristic of him. I think this dream stems at least partly from his past reluctance to go with me to a Carbon Leaf show, combined with my fear that he'll feel forced if we ever do go together. Why I dreamt it today, though, I'll never know.
