My dad's had his Tuesday appointment. All this really means is that they've decided on a treatment for his prostate cancer. He gets the lovely process of getting localized radiation to the area for five days a week, five weeks, for a total of 25 of those. Those treatments will be followed by implantation of radioactive pellets into his prostate area. He'll still be able to spend time with Aidan. He just needs to stear clear of sitting Aidan on his lap for extended periods of time. Hugs and everyday interaction is fine. I know my dad was concerned about that. Hearing that he was made me concerned as well.

Dinner at Gramma Mora's was nice. The great thing about that was realizing how much my stomach has shrunk since I began dieting. In only a week and a half I went from capable of downing an entire plate of Gramma Mora's cheese enchilada dinner to comfortable to comfortably full at a quarter of a plate. Since it was a special occasion, I splurged and had half a plate. Today I had my leftovers. It is nice to know how much less it takes for me to feel stuffed.

We'd called up [livejournal.com profile] whitesnowrosere to see if we could have her cut Aidan's hair, which was getting very shaggy. Right after dinner, we headed over to her apartment with Aidan. It was great. Aidan was a little shy at first. He was a bit wiggle-wormy during the cut. It's cool, his hair still has a natural look to it, but is shortened enough to prevent that disheveled-even-after-combing look. That, and it was a wonderful reason to get together. She hadn't seen Aidan in ages, so it was neat just watching the two of them interact. Aidan even played the shy ham, giving me the thumb's up just before she began to trim.

We stuck around for a while after he was done, enjoying the company and the conversation. Unfortunately yet understandably, Aidan got bored and sleep-hyper. We were having a lot of fun catching up, though, so we decided to take Aidan back to my parents' place, get him settled in bed, then return to continue our social visit.

On our way out from my parents' place, my dad was saying taking Eggert Rd. would be faster. I decided to try it, since I'm vaguely familiar with the area. What I didn't know was that Eggert ended up meeting Sheridan. I had [livejournal.com profile] mechanchaos take a right on Niagara Falls Boulevard then a left on Sheridan. As we were turning, he noticed a no left turn sign. Too late. We were already turning. Just our rotten luck, a cop was sitting at the light. So we got stuck with a ticket. UGH!

We arrived back at our friends' apartment in a downright foul mood from the ticket. [livejournal.com profile] whitesnowrosere helped out by offering and fixing us some tea - we both chose green tea. I swear, green tea is great. We took some time to chill out, and [livejournal.com profile] whitesnowrosere assured us that the area is crawling with cops, and that many have fallen prey to their assholitude.

Before long, [livejournal.com profile] ninepointsatyr and [livejournal.com profile] amberrattus arrived. It was great to have to opportunity to catch up, and to just hang out. [livejournal.com profile] whitesnowrosere asked [livejournal.com profile] mechanchaosand I if we'd let her get him all dressed up. That was royally good fun. ***grins wide*** I love watching that! It fascinates me that even just subtle differences can cause such a transformation.

That had the added benefit of helping us relax and forget about the ticket enough to have lots of fun.

The best part, in my mind, is that even though we aren't the best at keeping in touch or visiting with them, we can still pick up where we left off. Some of the best times I have are just hanging out and chatting, relaxing and letting go.

I'd love to host some sort of event that could bring my Buffalo friends and my Rochester friends together for a time. I know that's a lot easier said than done, though. I'd love to get [livejournal.com profile] ninepointsatyr, [livejournal.com profile] whitesnowrosere, and [livejournal.com profile] amberrattus up for an enormous, impressive invasion of Vertex. My problem is, I'm reluctant to spend the cover charge to get into Vertex, but I know that the exercise is some of the best I can get, since I keep on dancing until I can't anymore. Still, it would likely be cheaper to go to Vertex once in a while than it would for a gym membership. ***shrugs***

Anyhow, we ended up talking until we ought to have headed home, then we kept talking and laughing for 3 hours more. That was an ass-ton of Doing It! I'm exhausted and cranky today, but it is worth it to have taken the opportunity to hang out with folks we don't see very often.

The positives:
having many days off from being Mom while Aidan was away
spending time with our Buffalo friends
getting to help with [livejournal.com profile] mechanchaos's dressing up
Aidan's nifty haircut
good family time
getting to talk to my dad more in person about his treatment
taking an afternoon drive around our old neighborhood

The negatives:
getting ticketed
Aidan's cold
catching Aidan's cold in full force

Overall it was a good and much-needed trip.

I liked that quote as well! My dad's always been pretty on-the-ball with most medical stuff. I'm glad it seems he's being good with his alcoholism too. Hopefully treatment will be relatively easy to cope with and he'll be able to get back to normal as soon as could be expected.

Re: ticket, I think [livejournal.com profile] mechanchaos put it best when he said that at least it will be an excuse to visit Buffalo a little more frequently. It was easy to get grumpy about it at the time, but it could have been worse. He could have taken up several hours by deciding to randomly search our car.

***hugs lots and tightly***
