With an impending trip to the vet for 4-5 cats, today was definitely the time to go shopping for a second cat carrier. Our older carrier was big enought to hold Minerva and her kittens for their early-to-mid-year visits. Now it's looking increasingly diminutive.

So out we went. We checked prices as Pet Saver, PetCo, Target, Pet World, KMart, and PetSmart. I'm glad we stuck it out until PetSmart. We found a carrier that is actually larger than our other carrier, for the same price as a smaller model I'd been liking at Pet Saver. The model we purchased is just as easily modular as a smaller one that dawnstar and kolys recently bought. I'd liked how theirs came apart easily in the case of having a cat reluctant to exit. It felt good to find a larger one of those at the same price as some of the less versatile models we'd seen elsewhere.

When we got home, I put together the new carrier and brought out the old. I gave each a folded baby blanket for the comfort of the to-be inhabitants, and propped the doors open so they can sniff and explore and rub their scent freely. There'll be enough room for 5 if ecwoodburn decides she wants me to include Epiphany in this trip, and a pleasant amount of room for 4 in future years.

If it says anything about the new carrier, our tall boy Zephyr can stand up comfortably inside of it. He and Morpheus could share it in reasonable comfort. Those are our largest kitties.

I don't know if it's just the meds, but I've been having almost a gleeful time when we have need of getting something new for the house or our pets or Aidan, or what-have-you. It's a nice feeling not to worry about needing the exra carrier room anymore, especially knowing that we had a good find.

Did I mention this thing even comes with a little food / water / treat tray that snaps on the inside of the wire mesh door? It's so cute!

It's funny, it's harder for me not to be relaxed and positive these days. It's a pleasant side effect of working on mending that muscle in my neck / shoulder region.

I'll let ARDDA know before heading out to groceries tomorrow that Epiphany will indeed be with them.

It wouldn't be imposing at all to ask about the prices to get her fixed would be. If you'd like I can ask if they could print up a full estimate. If you're leaning towards having us take her in for that, I could even set a tentative appointment. Nice thing about appointments is that I can always call and cancel or postpone if you don't like the figures on the estimate.

I guess the direction I was ambling towards with that is that I wouldn't mind taking her in for her surgery sooner than later if they have relatively swift appointments available.

On the other hand, I don't know how long it takes girl-kitties to heal from being spayed. I ought to ask that as well. ***will likely write all this down before closing the window so she doesn't have to worry about it running through the gaps in her seive-like brain. If it takes a while to heal and they only have mid-august appointments available for her, I'd suggest waiting until after the stress of travel.

A good plan of action might be me getting estimate, asking about recovory time and travel stress, and (pending the former advice and availability) make a tentative appointment within a week or two. Then I can e-mail you the info for swiftness and snail-mail you the actual copies of the various papers and handouts and whatever. If you decide at that point that you'd rather wait until after, let me know and I'll cancel the appointment.

Sorry about the somehow delayed email. I guess it's good that I sent two emails and referred to it in the post. It handily did the trick of expediting the information to you. :) We're prepping to go at the moment. ***hugs*** I'll be in touch soon about what Dr. K had to say re: estimate and travel and appointments and such.

NP. lite said it took about two weeks for his girls to recover, but then Smokey started chewing on her stitches, and then taught the trick to Cleo. And apparently Smokey getting stuck in the freezer was shortly thereafter.

Dr. Kutrybala said something similar - 7-14 days on the recovery time. He's neat, though. He does his stitches all internal (except for the knot at the end) so there's nothing for mischievous girls to go gnawing at until their dissolving material dissolves.

I just sent you a looooooong e-mail with all the details I could think of including, and then some. I need your confirming or denying of estimate / appointments ASAP though. We're lucky that this time of year isn't typically heavy in his surgery schedule.

I find it ironic that folks are friendlier and easier to schedule with at the vet's than at my PCP...
