I was wondering if anyone might be interested in a Friday trip to Vertex. It is one of those rare evenings where we are Aidan-free and have no plans as of yet.
YAY....Glad to know you want to come with us. Love spending time with you!!! Perhaps we can get some other people to come with us too. FASHION UPDATE - wear black...DUH!:)
Solid colors are a good thing. Maroon, hunter green, rich dark purple, intense red. Velvet is a good thing, as is sheer, lace, vinyl, or shimmery fabrics depending on what is flattering and what is in your wardrobe.
Friday nights often have a lot of 80s music, if it is DJ Cedric. Not a big crowd. Downside is that many of the regulars are friends outside the club. I never got over my shyness enough to get to know many of them well at all. I just like going because I like to dance, whether or not I do it well. I enjoy the music, and the atmosphere.
I try to ignore if any of the regulars get snippy about what people are wearing. Those that I've talked to tend to be ickier towards drunk "normals" who are spoiling other people's fun than toward people who just aren't dressed in black.
I'm probably just going to wear a long black a-line skirt, my black thermal shirt, stretch pants, possibly my Ren boots, a collar of some sort, and an assortment of my rings. I'll be a little on the warm side, but it allows me a range of movement... Then again, I might trade the thermal shirt and range of movement for my corset and a silver overshirt. It really depends on my mood and whether I feel confident enough on that night to pull off wearing the corset.
I was just thinking that you could raid my closet if there is anything you think you'd like to borrow for the evening. If we gather here first we could do a carpool if that would be helpful, and I could open my closet to anyone interested in borrowing. I don't have a lot, and I don't know how the fit would be, but it is worth a try if you aren't certain what to wear.
I would love to gather at your place beforehand (assuming that I do end up deciding to go). I have a pair of black velvety stretch pants... but I'm at a loss for shirt. I used to have one that would've been perfect - silk gypsy shirt. But it stopped fitting. Were I feeling self-confident and thin (yeah right), I could wear my black camisole with the velvety pants. Not likely to happen, though. Hmm.
Will you help with makeup too? :)
I may have convinced Oliver to come with... but we're still discussing. He doesn't like to dance. But he's very curious to see me gothed-out. :)
I don't normally wear makeup there myself. I might do a little lipstick and eyliner, but nothing that off-the-wall. mechanchaos can attest to the fact that I'm not very good at applying makeup. I tried to make mechanchaos look pretty once and it took a loooooong time and many retries. ***blushes, sheepish*** I am too used to drawing to apply makeup well... Instead, I stick with a few simple basics if I do any at all. ***isn't the sort to wear makeup on a regular basis*** I can try to help if you would like me to. I'm decent at doing goth-style eye elaboration on other people, since those are so much like the patterns I like to draw.
The eye-elaboration thing is fine. That's actually sort of what I had in mind. Do you have dark/black lipstick I could borrow, though?
I don't generally wear much makeup either, but since I haven't gone out dancing in a while, it sounds fun. So yeah.. I think I'm convinced. Oliver will probably go to game night at Beth and Matt's place, though. At which point ... maybe I'll go over there, pick up Beth and drop off Oli... and head to your place? Then we can all get ready together and head to Vertex? Does that work?
I have faith in you!! You can check out both of our closets if you wish. I have a nice vintage blue caplet that finishes off most outfits. I am not sure what I am going to be wearing. If I am lazy and or pressed for time I will probably wear my cricuit shirt..a shirt that has stretchy circuits printed ont he sleeves and some sort of pants. If I am not and adventuresome I will probably wear my opaque patterned tights with my velvet thigh highs over it. A pair of bike shorts over that and a ren shirt or my dress worn open to make it look like a ren shirt. Has to be seen to be believed or understood. TO sum up. Anything black is good. If you don't have much black that is fine. Like Blackfelicula said solid darker colors are fine. One neat fashion is that any prom or formal dress works.. with some accessorizing. If you want to dance make sure you have comfortable shoes. White is also an ok color especially if it can be accessorized with black or a darker color such as a shawl or scarf(the wide kind not the winter kind:)). I saw some people that would just come in nice looking dresses which is fine too. Collars and other accesories go nicely too. There isnt isn't anything cuter than a girl ina white dress wearing bondage attire...:). Layering works too. Lets say you have a renlike white chemiseif you wear that under a longer black skirt that looks really nice. Then you could do a corset or a scarf or shawl. There are so many possabilities. We all should probably get together at my house and get ready first. I am open for suggestions. I will not get upset if you wear something that is not quite right. This is a goth club where people go to escape the judgemental normal everyday life. I doubt anyone would really care and if they do they are too caught up with themselves... Well as I was saying come over for a dress up before and we will take care of last minute details. Bring all pertinent clothing of course. You might want to read what I posted on dawnstar recent post.
I would also recommend fabrics that breathe. Or some sort of skirt. Temperature-wise it's a pretty comfortable place, until you actually start dancing.
And it's definitely a place to get away from the stereotypical club scene. Most people there do their own thing, rather than standing around in clumps on the dancefloor, and you don't get looked at funny if you're not part of a group or a couple. Actually, rather the opposite s:)
(Just beware of *cough* certain people who are desperate enough to claim they're empaths and that they "sensed" you wanted them to kiss you when you wanted no such thing...oh wait, did I type that in? Silly me. *eg*)
I can come out to Vertex Friday night!!! YAY!!!! *does her happy dance*
Come over and play dress up first?? That sounds like fun!! I'll bring the ( few ) things I have that would be useful, and we can figure it out from there. *sooooo happy!!*
Budget is tight and I couldn't get there until around 11pm, most likely, but I'm still thinking about it. Can't, however, remember how much it is to get in. $4-5?
Last time I was there, it was $4 over, $8 under. It opens at 10, 10:30-11:30 is open bar both upstairs and down. They typically close around 2:30 give or take depending on the DJ. Friday will likely be pretty empty for part of the night. I just checked the DJ Cedric yahoo group and found out that Friday, Waterstreet Music Hall is going to be absorbing most of the Vertexians until the Pigface show is over. I like some of their songs, but certainly not all of them, and I'm not the sort to go to concerts because of two songs that may or may not be played. Sounds like it wouldn't be a bad time to help out the club with an influx of non-regulars. Not as much people watching, but I'd rather dance anyway.
Hmm. If we're going to play dress-up first ***grins***, then we ought to start the evening somewhat early. What time does everyone normally do dinner? On that train of thought, would you rather do a conglomo-dinner here first and start the evening early? We could have everyone bring either a dish to pass, a beverage, or a snack and not have to spend the kind of $$ that goes into a full order-out. That way a regular family-serving of whatever would stretch since there would be more than one thing to choose. If we do that, I'd suggest gathering around 6:30pm or so. If not, then I'd say gather around 8, that should give us enough time.
I'm going to pick up Beth around 6:30ish and then head to your place. As for dish-to-pass... I won't have as much time to prepare something, as the rest of you... since I'll be in classes all day. So... could I volunteer for soda-duty?
That would be fine. ***smiles*** I even e-mailed the DJ to ask what movies he was going to be playing for visuals. His reply said that he was open to suggestions. If anyone has any gothic-imagery, horror, or thriller films in mind to play in the background, let me know and I can pass along the request.
*nod* Black good. s:) And I'm another who doesn't typically do make-up, so the most I'll have is a bit of cover-up and subtle eyeliner.
I'm going with my old orchestra dress from high school. Floor-length, black, V-neck, ties in back, elbow-length sleeves. And it's LIGHT, even if it is poly/rayon. Yay!

I have little in the way of black. Must remedy this. I have black velvet pj bottoms; that's a start. Any suggestions?

What time shall I plan on getting to your place? Will we want to do something for dinner together?
*mental note: call/e-mail Beth if she doesn't respond to this tonight, so I can clear this plan with her*
