I PASSED!!!

Though the process of catching up with my parents and getting Aidan and I transferred into my mother-in-law's car was a bit nerve wracking, it was relatively smooth sailing after that. I drove the car to Auburn. We stopped at Wendy's for lunch. Then, sometime after one, I drove around Auburn practicing. Left turns, right turns, stops, parallel parking (twice), three point turn (once), lane changes, merges... Anything I could think of and then some.

By 2:30 pm I was already as calm and comfortable in the car as I was going to be. I kept driving, since it was still way too early. 2:40, I pulled over and asked Carolyn to drive me to the site. Pulling up to the site, we saw this somewhat heavyset man in uniform flash a brilliant smile at someone. Then he walks over and asks me to get into the driver seat.

I think I lucked out on examiners. The other man looked like a hardass. The woman looked haggard, as if she'd had a long day. As dispassionately poker faced as my examiner was, he resembled a big, brown teddy bear. I was able to keep my cool. I could have done one thing wrong or a hundred and he wouldn't have shown sign of it.

His calm and my practice worked in my favor. Parallel parking and 3 point turns were practically flawless. My only problems that he pointed out in the end were related to erring on the side of caution.

When we returned to the test site, he took the time to tell me what I got wrong. He let me explain my reasoning on one of the issues, then pointed out why my thinking had been incorrect. Only then did he say that my problems came to 25 points which meant I passed. That was still sinking in as he printed my receipt, had me sign it, and exited the car.

I drove back here to [livejournal.com profile] mechanchaos's parents' house. I'm glad I'm staying overnight here. Their land is so calm. Just one step out of the car and I was noticeably soothed. I needed that, after the nerves I've had for the past few days and the sheer excitement of knowing that I passed.

YAYAYAYAYAYAYAY!!!!! *very happy and proud that you got through it*

Definitely sounds like you lucked out on examiners. Mine was so uptight, at the end I went and turned the car off while still in drive! s:P~

I am too. I couldn't stop talking about it for a while after. It was almost uncanny how I just knew when it was time to head over. When Carolyn pulled the car up and he was the one approaching, I was so thankful for the extra measure of calm from him.

***grins*** Thanks! BTW- I still need to return your book and pick up the next one. If you're interested and have time, would you be interested in reading, "Many Lives, Many Masters" before the 8th?

Yay, congrats! :D

When I took my driving test, I did really badly at parallel parking and ended up about 3 feet from the curb. But the guy with me just waved his arm and said "Close enough". ;)

Thanks! :)

Before I scheduled this appointment last Friday, I didn't really know how to parallel park. It took intensive practice over the weekend to really be confident at it. I doubt I'd be afraid to try to parallel park ever again after the past five days.

You lucked out, though, if the guy was that easygoing! I kept hearing horror stories of the folks who ended up with evil examiners... ***thanks Everything that she didn't end up with one of those***

Yay! This makes me want to insist that you and I get together and you do all the driving, but I guess that doesn't make much sense, since you'd have been able to drive with me in the car before today. But still... YAY!! *hugs*

I wouldn't mind doing the driving. Carolyn even had be drive back here so she didn't have to drive both ways. It's impressive that my mother-in-law trusts my driving enough to both let me use her car for the test and do general travel driving. :)

At least now I'm completely legal to drive even if everyone else in the car is conked out sleeping. :)

***hugs lots and tightly***

Thank you very much. After being afraid of the road test for so many years, it's fantastic to know I got through it and didn't panic when it really mattered. :)

Congrats! :)

We still need to get together sometime to give you back Aidan's watch...how does the 4th sound?

Thanks!

I'll have to talk to [livejournal.com profile] mechanchaos to be sure, but the 4th sounds like it ought to work out. Oh, and we still have paper towels from Aidan's birthday. My aunt said you'd brought them? If you'd like them back, I could return those to you too.

[livejournal.com profile] dawnstar mentioned hoping to get together with us that Saturday too. Would you mind if we shifted things into a larger group gathering, or would you prefer to keep things separate? If you don't mind the larger the others would likely be [livejournal.com profile] dawnstar and [livejournal.com profile] kolys, and if they're available, [livejournal.com profile] hbbtrbbtbcnbt and family.

Let me know what you think, here, on AIM, or on e-mail, OK?

I knew you could do it !!

I know we have talked about this before and after, but I wanted to post here too. :)

Re: I knew you could do it !!

See, I wouldn't have guaranteed that I could do it. I knew that I was as prepared as I could be. The driving around Auburn that I did in your mom's car confirmed that. Both parallel parking jobs I did in practice were no problem whatsoever.

What worked in my favor was a calm examiner as well as practicing until no more practice could have been had. I knew I was a capable driver. Now I'm a licensed and capable driver. :) ***hugs and kisses***

Re: :)

My dear Lovey... You do realize you also need to install a compartment to hide it in. We don't want officials deciding to crack down on our world, destruction, now, do we?

From: [identity profile] blackfelicula.livejournal.com

***amusedly indignant*** I'm in a STATION WAGON, damnit... :) No fuel hogging SUV for me!!!

Thanks for the congrats. :)
