So I arrived home today to find it completely prone. Our cats had floored our christmas tree. Shattered glass globe ornaments lay in fragments. About half of our more durable ornaments were flung about. I have just finished the monumental task of salvaging the survivors, cleaning up the carcasses, and resurrecting the christmas tree. It looks fine now. No one aside from those who know it happened would guess. I think that means we had too many glass globe ornaments...

Awwwwwww :( *hugs and hugs and hugs* I sorry. Naughty kitties. *hugs and smooches*

Tis good, though, that it was salvagable.

*more smushy hugs*

***hugs and hugs and hugs and hugs lots back*** To be honest, we've got a lot of ornaments. And it isn't as if we couldn't buy extra glass ornaments of need be. They're actually pretty cheap. (At least the ones we buy are...) ***more hugs, big squishums hugs***

Especially with leaving her alone for 11 hours a day, that was one of the deciding factors against a tree for me this year, too.

Having a tree is just too much a part of my family tradition. I think the last time that we didn't have one was three years ago. It just didn't feel right not to have a tree. I get all sorts of sappy about this time of year. Something about cuddling up with only holiday lights on and doing family stuff. :) To blazes with whether it's Yule, Christmas, Kwanzaa, Chanukkah, Solstice, Saturnalia, or what-have-you... It's dark-part-of-the-year Family Time for me.

*nod* I know. I want a tree. I want to get all the ornaments my parents have saved up in the attic that are mine for it.

Like [livejournal.com profile] tearsinger, I also remember a time our (my parents') tree fell over for no good reason. While I was standing across the family room from it, and China in the kitchen. (At least she listened to me when I told her to sit & stay and not come investigate.)

Possibly if it was poorly balanced in the first place? You've seen the size trees my parents get -- usually around 7-8 feet (?) to go with the cathedral ceiling in the family room. But nothing really happened to make it tip when it did. I literally looked at it, turned away to hang up the phone on the other end of the room, and when I turned back, *whooshCRASH*. I panicked and called my nearest uncle to come over, since I had no idea how I was going to even get this thing off the ground again, yet alone pick up all the broken glass ornaments, and make sure China and I didn't get hurt or spread the broken bits further.
