Just to let folks know what's up, yesterday I had a stay at RGH for the bulk of the day after what turns out to be a particularly nasty bout of gastroenteritis. After cyclic bouts of vomiting and diarrhea left me limp and barely conscious, the ER seemed the best case, and [livejournal.com profile] mechanchaos's call to the PCP agreed. My BP midday was something like 104 / 57. They had to do a blood test and I was so dehydrated (though saline/electrolyte IV was going on) and blood depleted (my endless menses are a subject for another post) that it took a looooonnngggg time for the nurse to get much out of me. What came out looked as black and concentrated as some of the clots from elsewhere. That was not fun. I didn't really have the energy to protest, though at the time I was convinced I was being a trooper re: the push and pull of the needle.

A few local faces kept my hospital room bright. [livejournal.com profile] dawnstar and [livejournal.com profile] kolys got to arrive at my room in time to be kept out while I was using the bedpan. Lack of muscular strength / function is no fun. [livejournal.com profile] hbbtrbbtbcnbt dropped by our house in time to get Aidan off the bus and bring him in to the hospital. She also let him camp out overnight so that he could get to bed and [livejournal.com profile] mechanchaos and I could concentrate on getting home and getting a good night's sleep after I was released. [livejournal.com profile] mechanchaos put up with not knowing what he could do to help, even as he was feeling wiped out and woozy himself. Aidan was really sweet about things, even though he was a little uncertain about the tubes in me. If it wasn't for my friends and family, it would have been a much, much longer stay. Admittedly, it would also have been a much longer stay if I hadn't gotten a couple decent naps in too, but I think [livejournal.com profile] mechanchaos appreciated having folks around while I was napping, so he could take his mind off how tired he was.

The C-T Scan, as the doctor said, "was pristine", so my problems were mostly viral. Last night and today my friend and ally has been gatorade. My bathroom runs have been only to pee. I even felt up to a can of chicken broth. Maybe this liquid diet stuff will be a kick-start to eating smaller portions in general. Not that I like the yicky sicks, but it would be nice to have a silver lining, especially since this is the last week of classes. (Not including finals.) I have no doubt that my uterine issues exacerbated things. I still need to look into that, though.

Anyhow, I'm feeling much more human today. That broth felt like a hearty meal, though, so it may take some time before I'm back up to optimum performance. (If I'm ever up to optimum performance... depends on the definition of optimum performance, but I digress.)

Eeek! *snuggle*

Now I wish even more I wasn't going to miss you next weekend s:(

***snuggles back*** The nice part is that the virus itself should be gone "within 24-48 hours". The down side is working slowly back up to a normal schedule of eating. Slowly is good though. Here I go being contradictory. Ah well.

I hope you have a good visit anyway. I'll give folks extra hugs to pass along to you. I know that's not the same thing as real-life in-person hugs. Take care of yourself and have a safe and refreshing journey (despite the long travel-time).

The thought did occur to me to try to call you. But at the time, we knew nothing at all, and it didn't make any sense. Seeing as we didn't, in fact, know anything until this morning... I figured I'd just wait and let Maureen tell folks herself.

*hugs, though*

*hugshugshugshugshugshugshugshugshugshugshugs* Matt and I are very glad to know that you're feeling better today. *more hugs* How is John, and how did Aidan do with the testing today?

From: [identity profile] blackfelicula.livejournal.com

Testing was postponed until Friday, but during the school day. John is feeling much better. I had cream of rice twice yesterday and snacked on a small handful of rice chex, dry. Today I had half a banana and half a serving of cheerios with milk for breakfast. I'm wondering why it is that I still feel kinda loopy, though... ***shrugs***

Thank you again and again for helping with Aidany stuff!

Yikes

I am soooo sorry you had such a week as that. That was pretty horrible. I had something distantly similar for xmas a few years back that messed me up pretty good and wrecked the holiday big time, so I know it's no picnic. I am glad yer getting into recovery mode and able to finish out your semester. damn.. I always knew you were a tough chick, this is proof ain't nuttin killing YOU :) HUGS!!

Re: Yikes

The tough part is being nervous driving. I'm eating again, granted not the piggy habits I had before, but what ought to be enough to fuel me. I'm friends with both gatorade and water. Still, I've got menstrual issues that complicate things. I get to feel all shaky and drugged even with full meals. Luckily [livejournal.com profile] mechanchaos has been helping on the driving and housework so I can take the time to finish out the semester. After Wednesday I'm done!. Thanks for the concern. ***hugs***
